An Untimely Awakening
Clunking across the floor heavy-footed
I awake to less than a surprise;
The distant chuckle of the fire churning
Distinctly arouses my nerves.
A picturesque man carrying his book;
He does not stop to say goodbye.
I close my eyes to capture his image
Hoping an eternal flash forever remains
He pauses for a moment– maybe two,
Slightly glancing in my position behind him.
He does not know that I am awake;
No, he believes that I should still be dreaming,
But as he latches tighter around the rugged book
I know he easily senses my thought
