Pot? Friends? Help Me?
So, last night I went to a football game with some of my friends. And don’t get me wrong, I love all my friends, but sometimes they really out me in stressful situations, and while they think they are having a good time, I’m the one who’s there babysitter. My school is extraordinary samll, only about 70 kids in my grade, so my friends are really important, they are my relliance. Most the kids smoke, and I know you say, well not all the kids smoke, but almost all of them do, I mean this is Humboldt, it’s known all over the world for the pot. I love my friends, but when they are consistently getting high, as a routine, it really annoys me. I live in an area that is basically only known for pot, Humboldt County, basically alot of the parents grow(mine don’t) and none of the kids really have anybody to look up to, and tell them that it’s not an okay thing to do. I know that I have better sense then to actually try to myself, I have more self-respect then getting high just to have a good time, I can have a fun time just by being myself. I want to go to all these events and things, but i just can’t understand my friends, they say that they trying to stop, but they don’t make any effort, I tell them not to, I tell them it at the least cut back, but they don’t, because in reality they just don’t care about themselve. They tell me they will be back in about 10 minutes, and when they come back, come of them even try to lie to me about it, and say they did nothing! i tell them to not even try it, because I can tell. But then, I’m their babysitter, making sure they don’t make a fool out of themselves, or making sure they don’t get hurt. I can’t just ditch them though, they are my friends, and basically everybody does it in our school(besides me). I love my friends, but they are such a hand-ful! Please help, I;m only 14, and this is hard to deal with by myself

Hmm. Share this with your parents, I’m sure they already know, but maybe they could pull you out of that particular school and maybe move to a neighboring county. Hope I helped.

You said there are roughly about 70 people in your grade… I’m guessing you probably have maybe around 10 or so friends out of that number. And what’s so bad about having friends younger and older than you? If these friends are a handful, you can always have some other friends and acquaintances to hang out with.

Sooo, I have a dilemma. With a guy. Help?
I’m in highschool. Don’t even tell me I’m too young to be in love. Cause I’ve felt love. I’ve had 5 boyfriends since 7th grade and I’m in my junior year right now, so I’ve bided my time quite well. All of these boyfriends have lasted 4 months to a year. I cared for all of them. Only loved one. Now there’s a new guy. He’s the catch of the century. Personality, gymnast, drumline major, pianist, gorgeous, smile and eyes that could stun you in your tracks. It was a miracle the first time he held me and kissed me because I never dreamed he’d have any kind of feelings for me. We talked about everything significant in our lives and he looked at me like nothing else in the world mattered and picked me up and twirled me around in the movies, and held me when I was cold and we sorta swayed like we were dancing, and talked about everything and it was the most perfect night of my life. The next day, and the past few weeks for that matter, it was a different story. He flashes me a smile in the hall sometimes and gives me a hug on the rarest occasion. We’ve hung out three times since then. First time, at lunch, we were alone on the basement starewell of the school. He kissed me by the end again, confusing me all over again, but barely said goodbye when the bell rang. Second time, he invited me to his house. We watched Robin Hood Prince of Thieves because he loved the music in it. Cuddled on his bed. He gave me that look again, played with my hair, kissed me, made out with me, held me, but tried to unbutton my pants three times when I told him no (I’ve had sex before, and i was more than willing to do it with him, but I wanted commitment first). But he finally stopped and just held me and kissed me and played with my hair and looked into my eyes. Next day he acts the same, like we barely know eachother more than a passing glance and occasional smile. Third time was today. I told him I wanted to hear him play Mad World for me on the piano and we sat in the band room all of lunch just talking and him playing me piano music. He hugged me, but never looked in my eyes unless I said something weird, and didn’t seem at all interested in anything about me anymore, because it felt like i was interrogating him just to keep a conversation going. Then the bell rang and he said he was going to the drum room and got up and walked off with an awkward wave over his shoulder. Biggest mixed signals I’ve ever experienced. I’m trying to teach myself piano and how to do a backflip so i can meet any kinds of standards that he has.
I’m so confused. What should I do that doesn’t involve giving up? I’ve played hard to get, I’ve tried the sweet innocent approach, I’ve damn near tried everything. What would you do? (that doesn’t involve giving up!)

well if you tried everything then i would just ask. tell him you really like him and that you want to be committed with him. that’s just the best way to say it. maybe hes busy at school or i dont really know him but the only way to find out is to ask him yourself. but at the same time make sure hes not playing you. making you a secret.

i need a question not a life story
Evanj | Sep 28, 2009

Ask him, straight up. If he can’t give you a straight answer, he’s not worth it, and he’s certainly not the "catch of the century."
Alyss | Sep 28, 2009

Back up and give him space. I won’t tell you that you are too young to be in love but based on your question, you don’t quite seem mature enough. Swaying and kissing does not equal love. And neither does 3 instances of seeing this guy. I was once told, don’t "play" hard to get. Be hard to get. Get your own life and if he wants to spend time with you he will, and if he doesn’t take it for what it is and move on. You have mentioned all the things he does, I hope your schedule is just as full, if not fill it with meaningful activities.
T B | Sep 28, 2009

I am sorry to say, but at least 8 different things in your story tell me that he is gay. He probably doesn’t even know it yet, and that is why he keeps trying to get with you, but he is definitely gay.

You won’t be able to turn him, so don’t even bother trying. Just get over him as fast as you can.

Sorry.

IMDB rating: 8.00

Plot: ” The Man Who Would Be King” is about two ambitious ex-soldiers stationed in India who set out to become the rulers of an entire country. After finishing their tour of duty in India, Daniel Dravot and Peachy Carnehan have decided that India is “too small for the likes of them,” so they decide to bribe a local ruler and extort money from him, in order to buy twenty Martini rifles, which they will use to take over villages in Kafristan. They face many challenges and perils along the way, including difficult terrain, hostile natives, freezing temperatures, and an avalanche high in the mountains. They eventually come to a small village, Urheb, where they meet Ootah and Billy Fish, an Indian who speaks English; he then becomes their translator. They then train the natives of this village to use the rifles, and soon conquer village after village. During a battle, Daniel is struck by an arrow that seemingly sticks out of his chest. The ignorant natives believe that he must be a God for not having died, and fall down and begin worshiping him. Daniel and Peachy decide that it would be easier for a “God ” to take over the country, so they pretend that Daniel is a god, the son of Alexander the Great who has returned after 2200 years to again rule Kafristan. The entire country celebrated the return of their new ruler, the Son of Segunda (”Alexander”). As a token of their admiration, the holiest of holy men gives Daniel all of the gold and riches left by Alexander in 328 B.C. It is enough to make them the richest men in the world . . . All goes well until Daniel’s ego and greed gets the best of him. He asks Peachy to bow when he walks in front of him. He later tells Peachy that he has decided to stay, and now believes that he is the son of Alexander ( ‘in spirit, anyways”), and that to fulfill his destiny, he will marry Roxanne, like his “father” Alexander did before him. The Kafiri’s believe that a mortal cannot marry a God, but Daniel goes ahead anyway. Peachy was set to leave with his share of the treasure, but Daniel convinced him to stay ” for old time’s sake” for the wedding. At the ceremony, Roxanne, believing that she would soon die, bites Daniel, drawing blood. The entire crowd realizes that since Danny is bleeding, that he is a man, not a God, and that he has been deceiving them the entire time. Peachy grabs Daniel and they run off with their twenty soldiers, shooting at the crowd of monks who set out to kill them. They are eventually captured, and Daniel is forced to walk out on a rope bridge. The monks cut the ropes, and Daniel bravely falls to his death. Peachy is later crucified; when they come to see him the next day, he is still alive, and they say that it is a miracle that he lived and they cut him down. He eventually climbs down into the valley and retrieves Danny’s head, still wearing the crown. He brings it back to Rudyard Kipling, a writer for the Northern Star, as proof that Daniel accomplished his goal, and became the King of Kafristan. Themes developed in the story: 1. ambition 2. friendship 3. taking risks 4. perseverance (not giving up) 5. power 6. honor and dignity

What does Qur'an say about Women?
According to The Almanac Book of Facts, in the past decade Islam increased 235 per cent. In the US, a recent poll determined that 100,000 people per year are converting to Islam in America alone. For every male convert to Islam, four females convert. The vast majority of converts to Islam are former Christians.
Muslims believe in the divine origins of both Judaism and Christianity as well as the revelations of the Torah and the Gospels, though they no longer exist on earth in their original and pure forms. Some experts suggest that one reason many Christian women are embracing Islam is because they are discovering the vast differences between what the scriptures of the religions say about the female gender.
Orthodox Jewish men, in their daily morning prayer, recite "Blessed be God King of the universe that Thou has not made me a woman." The women, on the other hand, thank God every morning for "making me according to Thy will."
Why is it such a shame to be a woman? Where did this aversion to being female originate? Let’s look first at the original woman, the mother of us all, Eve. Judaism, Islam and Christianity all teach that she was created from the rib of our father Adam. However, the discrepancies in belief start with the first sin committed by Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden.
The Bible blames Eve for the Original sin, which Christians believe all people inherit and are tainted with at birth. "And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her, and he did eat." (Genesis 3:6) "And the man (Adam) said (to God) The woman whom thou gavest to be with me, she gave me of the tree and I did eat." (Genesis 3:12)
The Catholic Bible states, "No wickedness comes anywhere near the wickedness of a woman…..Sin began with a woman and thanks to her we all must die." (Ecclesiasticus 25:19, 24)
In Islamic belief, there is no such thing as an inherent original sin; in fact, Islam teaches that every human is born pure and free from any sin. Muslims also believe that every child is born a Muslim, which means he is in a state of submission to His Lord, The Creator. For that reason, many converts to Islam prefer to call themselves reverts. As far as the first sin, it was Satan who tricked both Adam and Eve.
The Qur’an says: "Then Satan whispered suggestions to them both in order to uncover that which was hidden from them of their private parts; he said: ‘Your Lord did not forbid you this tree save you should become angels or become of the immortals.’ And he swore by God to them both: ‘Verily, I am one of the sincere well-wishers for you both.’ So he misled them with deception

Vertigo problems… doctors have no idea what I have.?
Hello! I am just trying to see if anyone out there has ever experienced what I am going through. I had my daughter (may 2008). I was diagnosed with Preeclampsia and had to do 48 hours of magnesium-sulfate. I also received an epidural. Since I had her I have been battling extreme fatigue. She has been sleeping through the night since 6 months (shes a year and a half now) and I am still tired all day everyday. I started to notice I would off and on feel dizziness about once a month (around my cycle), but would normally subside. Around April 2009 I started getting HORRIBLE vertigo symptoms that really haven’t gone away since. I feel that I am drunk at all times. Certain head movements make me feel like my head just swirls, I can feel myself walking sideways down hallways, and sometimes I even wake up from my sleep because I am so dizzy, I have also been waking up from my left arm hurting/tingling so bad when it is laid over-top of my chest when I am laying on my back.

It’s very strange but I can literally feel where the problem is. It’s always a weird feeling coming from the soft of the back of my head where the skull meets the spine. I just always feel a weird sensation (possibly pressure, but not pain). However I have a HORRIBLE pain that comes and goes on the left side of my head (where vertebrae meets the skull). I will feel my ears get full and my temples hurt. The scariest thing that happened was at work. I was just typing and all at once I felt INTENSE pressure (no pain) and for a split second I lost my vision (everything went white) and my head dropped on it’s own. I quickly got myself out of it, but it scared me so bad I had to leave work.

I have had countless blood work (no anemia, no b12 iron or vitamin d deficiency) I have had an MRI (just of the brain) which came out clean. I also did an ENG exam of the ears which came out fine (no meniere’s disease or inner ear problem). Now my doctor is talking about another MRI of the Cervical Spine to check for MS. All the field tests; such as walking toe-heel and no severe reflexes; are showing even early signs of MS. I am just really tired of dealing with this. I want to enjoy life again… and enjoy my little girl. If I am having a bought of Vertigo all I do is lay around. I hate it. If anyone out there is or has experienced the same symptoms please let me know. I just want to figure out what’s wrong with me.

In awe of seductive club singer Velma Kelly (who is subsequantly arrested for the murder of her husband and sister – after discovering their affair), Roxie meets Fred Cassely a man who convinces her he can ‘make her showbiz career take off’. However after Roxie has undergone the ‘casting couch’ treatment, and Fred has had his wicked way with her, he reveals that he has no more connections in showbusiness than she does. This is the final straw for Roxie, and her constant anger at rejection explodes. She shoots Fred Cassely and kills him. Upon discovering her infidelity, Roxie’s husband Amos refuses to take the blame for the murder and Roxie is sent to jail, pending hanging. In jail she finally meets tabloid darling Velma Kelly, currently receiving huge media attention for the double murder she committed earlier in the tale. Sharing the clink with Velma, are a collection of other sly females, all awaiting trial for the murders of their own partners. Velma is aloof to Roxie, however the prison Warden Mrs Morton offers Roxie the opportunity of representation by slick Chicago lawyer Billy Flynn. Billy is more a showbiz P. R agent than a legal lawyer and minipulates the tabloids into thinking Roxie is no more than an innocent ‘good time girl’ who took the wrong path, than a scheming murderess. The tabloids go crazy for the new girl on the cell block, and Roxie finally becomes a star. However due to Roxie’s new found fame, Velma is forgotten about. She is forced to approach Roxie with an offer of a part in her Vaudville act (filling the gap left by her murdered sister), but Roxie turns down her offer flat, thinking she needs no support in topping the bill. However, just as Velma’s star fell, so does Roxie’s, when Go-to-hell Kitty arrives at the jail on a multiple murder charge, the press forget Roxie and now she and Velma are in the same boat. With one more trick up her sleave Roxie manages to bring the media attention back onto her, and her day in court arrives. Billy is now ready to play the ultimate showman!

Her first assistant strives to please her and tries to emulate her, but one can sense that she is not quite as hard as she tries to put on. Into this mix comes a young woman who knows nothing of the fashion industry, has never read the magazine, and doesn’t know who Miranda Priestley is. She only sees this as a stepping stone to another journalism position. Showing no fashion sense and immediately scorned by everyone, Miranda nonetheless hires her as the second assistant. When Miranda demands that she obtain the next unpublished Harry Potter manuscript, you can sense that she is trying to force her to quit, but it makes the young woman dig in to please her boss. With the help of one of the magazine’s fashion editors, she gets a complete makeover and a new security. However, with her new appearance and the demands placed on her, she starts to lose her friends, family and her live-in boy friend. As she is whisked away to Paris with Miranda and faces all of the glamor that could be hers, including a flashy if not artificial freelance journalist, she is forced to make the decision of where she wants to be in her life.

Who else likes Batman Begins more than The Dark Knight?
Don’t get me wrong, I think The Dark Knight is a great movie. It’s just that in my opinion, Batman Begins had a cooler atmosphere and seemed more like a Batman movie. Gotham City in BB was more dark and creepier, it felt like how you would imagine Gotham City to be. TDK’s Gotham City wasn’t like that, it was just plain and ordinary. Another thing that sort of bothered me, was that TDK wasn’t Batman’s movie. It was more centered on the villains( The Joker and Harvey Dent/Two-Face) than the protagonist which was a problem with the Batman movies from the 80s/90s. Whenever Batman showed up on screen he wasn’t as intimidating as he was in BB. That’s the end of my rant. Opinions, please?

Batman begins had Liam Neeson in it.
Enough said.
Oh and Cillian Murphy had more of a part in Batman Begins. What was up with his part in Dark Knight?
AND SPOILERS****
When Rachel died, they didn’t even have a funeral or anything. It’s a batman movie. And batman is human… how could of he hid is anger? Gotham city in TDK looked like… New York. And that isn’t a good thing. The cinematography was better in batman begins. And, I hate to say this as I am a heath ledger fan, the acting was better AS A WHOLE

 make a name for me | Aug 01, 2009

I know right! Hopefully they are making a second dark night to fill it in more.
Delgar | Aug 01, 2009

I think the only thing i liked better about The Dark Knight was Heath Ledger playing the joker. I dont think I have ever seen someone own a roll like that. He was amazing…it’s just too bad he died he would have killed in a sequel
K.C. | Aug 01, 2009

Batman Begins was a little more interesting because it explained the birth of Batman and how he came to be who he was. Plus, thr story didn’t really go out of place and everything seemed to fit in. In the Dark Knight, Batman’s story has pretty much been told, it just shows that he encounters a larger threat than he’s ever dealt with before that caused chaos throughout Gotham worse than ever. If it wasn’t for the Joker’s amazing performance in the movie, i think the Dark Knight wouldnt have gotten great reviews. Heath Ledger pretty much saved that film…..

did anyone escape from alcatraz?
i saw a movie title called escape from alcatraz but i was thinking about how they would escape from there, knowing every which way was either trapped or secured by a guard..

No confirmed escapes from the island. There were many attempts over the years including the one that they made the movie out of. The bodies of the three men were never found so it was never proved that the men actually escaped.

Landing men on the moon was a result of fear of Soviet space domination. Since then, we haven’t done squat. Does the US now need China to challenge the US the way the former USSR did in the 60’s? The American public seems to have no need to push NASA to new heights. However, at the same time, Americans hate to come in second in a field that they have dominated in since inception. It seems to me that only a outright challenge from China can push Congress to levy the funds needed for real space travel again. Back to the moon, a Mars mission. I know we are scrapping the space shuttle, (about 20 years too late in my opinion), but other, more aggressive plans have been scrapped as deemed to costly and dangerous.
And if not China, who? Japan? France? Russia?

I love technology and space exploration. But if China, Russia, or anyone else wants to spend billions of US dollars to send people into space, to the Moon, to Mars, to Alpha Centauri – I say, let them.

There are two reasons to bother with any kind of race or push. First, American pride, which, incidentally, seems to be waning. Second, any race will always advance technology. Doesn’t matter what the particular race is in, it will advance technology.

But as far as supremacy being threatened, it doesn’t matter. Our probes, rovers, and other machines aren’t perfect human analogs, but they’re quite sufficient for anything that we need right now. Honestly, going to Mars would be cool, but what good could it possibly give us? We’re not going to terraform and colonize. The extremely rare chance of discovering possible evidence of previous life? Well, that would give a lot of people a metaphysical problem, and cosmologists would have a new reason to justify their existence, but that’s about it. Moon colony? Why?

I’m a total cynic when it comes to the US government, particularly Congress. But I do believe that even though they’re doing a terrible job of actually doing anything, their current focus(s) are in the right place. At this point in history, we truly do have more important problems to solve right here before we look again to the heavens. Take something seemingly simple – our nation’s infrastructure. Most of it is more than a century old, and has almost completely fallen apart. We’re having trouble providing water, electricity, heating/cooking gas, removal of sewage and other waste water; keeping our roads, bridges, and tunnels properly maintained. The most minimal, meager estimate to fix the country is $200 billion. That takes up resources, manpower, and time. And frankly, as an engineering geologist, I can tell you that $200 billion is wildly low. I don’t know what idiot accountant came up with that number. Honestly, to bring the entire country up to modern 2009 infrastructure technology (as defined above), it would take about $1 trillion.

I love space. I love technology races. Unfortunately, we (and the rest of the world, to be really fair about things) have let ourselves go to pot. We’ll go to Mars someday, but now is just not a good time.
Necessity is the mother of invention. Without a credible threat of becoming slaves ourselves, we would be content to sit back and let our own slaves do everything for us.
I’m with Mark V. The most crucial problems the USA is facing today is climate change, its crumbling infrastructure and the prospect of becoming number two or even three as the world’s economic super power. World domination isn’t easily given up, and billions of dollars on space research is only going to line the pockets of its greatest enthusiasts, namely those in that industry, with very little payback. As for its putting greed before climate change, the USA is showing its true colours, ‘I’m alright blow you jack’, but in the long run will have further to fall than any other nation.
Too echo Mark V – Space exploration is turning into a collaborative effort anyway. Which (hopefully) makes for better relationships between countries. The next major round of manned missions to the moon and Mars (and beyond) is best accomplished through shared expenses and technology. Personally, saying that one country should have all the space marbles, is silly any more. There are plenty of bright people on this planet whose talent should be used in their native country, not automatically immigrate to the U.S. (or Europe, for that matter).

Certainly, the U.S. has led the world in overall technology development for quite some time. Other countries are catching up by riding on the coat tails of that success and slowly surpassing it. This is nothing new. the U.S. took over from Britain after world war I as the dominate world power and technology leader.
