Why did Fran "Drescher" Tarkenton make it to the Hall of Fame?
His stats are absolute trash, he threw for under 3,000 yards 15 years out of the 18 he played, he lost all four super bowls he played in, and his last year he throw over 32 interceptions. His QB rating is averaged at about 80.4 a year, at this rate, if Kyle Orton plays as long as he did, will he make it too? How can we possibly honor such a horrid player?
342 tds? thats not very good cadolots

Tarkenton played in a different era where the rules did not favor passing to the extent that they do now. Compare Tark’s stats with his contemporaries not with modern QB’s. When Tarkenton retired he held every major passer record. He won his division for like a decade straight. He went to 3 superbowls, which is no easy task. All of the QB’s that have since surpassed his records played in a more passer friendly NFL.

 B_Wells | Nov 18, 2009

3000? HA YOU MAKE ME LAUGH, HE ALSO HOLD 4TH CAREER TD PASS.
Cadolots2 Vikings (8-1!!!!) | Nov 18, 2009

Like the typical fan, you rely on statistics. Now, Chris Berman would probably jump for joy with a stats argument. An NFL player from Tarkenton’s era would explain the superb skills of Tarkenton. I don’t know anyone who watched Tarkenton play, other some sportswriters who never played a down of football, could share your negative view of Tarkenton. Jim Kelly did not win a Super Bowl so kick him out?
thomas p | Nov 18, 2009

By being one of the best qbs to play the game? Not only did he rush for more yards than Kyle Orton throws for but he held many records while he played and basically was the grandfather of all scat backs and arguably the best scat qb to ever play the game. Fran tarkenton whether u like him or not was an outstanding qb and a big time game changer. He did lose 4 sbs but he got his team there 4 times and i would like to see kyle orton do that 1 time. Not to mention teams win superbowls not quarterbacks.

and i know i wont get ba because your obviously set on trashing a top 10 qb and will pick whoever is dumb enough to do it with you as best answer
Orthodox | Nov 18, 2009

There is more to life than stats and numbers. Did you stop to think about the fact that they made it to those four superbowls? Maybe he had no O-line? Maybe he had no running game? I can’t say for sure because I haven’t seen him play, but I will say that these decisions are made and backed by reason. Maybe you could go to the library and watch some footage? He may just impress you or, you may prove yourself correct. Who knows?
zachtology | Nov 18, 2009

Once again, stats aren’t all that matter. Damn kids today with their fantasy football argue stats too much. What about Joe Namath? He didn’t have excellent stats but he’s a legend for basically winning the Championship game against the Baltimore Colts and putting the AFL on the map and that gave you the merger. So stats aren’t everything. Favre is a sure hall of famer but he leads everyone in INTS. Stats aren’t everything. There are offensive linemen in the HOF and they’re not known for their stats at all. They’re recognized as being dominant in their position/era and being a great player.

and you have to realize football was actually once a man’s sport back then. It was actually rough and dirty, unlike what you see on TV today with the sparkling new stadiums, pretty colors, HDTV, and hearing Faith Hill singing about "the stadium rocking"

Being a QB was harder in his era, and it was a totally different game. Now DB’s get flagged for everything and O-Linemen can do more with their hands as opposed to back then. But to take away from Tarkenton’s credibility or even question why he’s in the HOF because he doesn’t have Tom Brady and Peyton Manning stats is asinine.

And why see the negative in losing the Super Bowl’s? and you’re talking about 4. Elway lost 4 Super Bowl’s as well, until he won 2 straight. Getting to the super Bowl is hard enough, but getting there four times is a spectacular achievement. So it’s Jim Kellys fault he lost 4 straight Super Bowls if his defense gave up 52 points or Scott Norwood missed the final FG? No. The only thing "horrid" is this question.
Mitch | Nov 18, 2009

 You can’t possibly be serious??

Tarkenton, Namath, Jurgenson, Unitas etc played at a time when a DB could hit a receiver non-stop until the ball was in the air. Today if a DB LOOKS at a receiver he get a pass interference penalty.

Also, Offensive holding was called anytime a OLineman opened his hands. Today a OLineman can grab all he wants.

I could go on, but you get the idea….the deck is completely stacked in favour of the offense today, compared to pre 1978.

Apples & oranges.
Rembrandt | Nov 18, 2009

It was the era that he played in. Look at the stats for his peers:

Roger Staubach 153 TDs 109 INT 1.4 TD/INT 22,700 Yards 83.4 Passer Rating
Terry Bradshaw 212 TDs 210 1.0 TD/INT INT 27,989 Yards 70.9 Passer Rating
Joe Namath 173 TDs 220 INT 0.78 TD/INT 27,663 Yards 65.5 Passer Rating
Bob Griese 192 TDs 172 INT 1.12 TD/INT 25.092 Yards 77.1 Passer Rating
Johnny Unitas 290 TDs 253 INT 1.15 TD/INT 40,239 Yards 78.2 Passer Rating
Len Dawson 239 TDs 183 INT 1.31 TD/INT 28,711 Yards 82.6 Passer Rating
Kenny Stabler 194 TDs 222 INT 0.87 TD/INT 27,938 Yards 75.3 Passer Rating
Craig Morton 183 TDs 187 INT 0.98 TD/INT 27,908 Yards 73.5 Passer Rating

Fran Tarkenton 342 TDs 266 INT 1.29 TD/INT 47,003 Yards 80.4 Passer Rating – he also rushed for 3,674 Yards and 32 TDs.

By your theory none of the above players deserve to be in the HOF. You must have grown up watching football in the 90s when the QBs wear dresses and still do – plus the fact that the offensive linemen could not extend their arms, and the DBs could mug the WRs all the way down the field until the ball was in the air. And by the way, the only played 14 games a year and with tougher teams – since there weren’t as many. And he did not play in SB III he was with the Giants – and his teams lost the SBs not 1 man.
scole_67 | Nov 18, 2009

 Because of his stats!

What is the movie Gummo about?
I tried watching this movie once, but it was crazy, and I didn’t get it, what’s the point in this movie?

October is early, but not too early to acknowledge Harmony Korine’s ”Gummo” as the worst film of the year. No conceivable competition will match the sourness, cynicism and pretension of Mr. Korine’s debut feature.and this is vey cool movie. Turned loose with a camera and the Emperor’s new clothes, the writer of the vastly better ”Kids” creates an aimless vision of Midwestern teen-age anomie, complete with drugs, garbage, dead cats and neat tricks like turning off Granny’s respirator

is the pope a hypocrite?
not necessarily aimed at benedict xvi, but there seems to be a strong contrast between jesus’s teachings of humbleness, "money is bad," etc. and the Pope’s big mansion castle thing, designer shoes, etc. If the pope was indiana jones in the last crusade movie, do you think he would have picked the big jewelly grail instead of the plain one?

I don’t think hypocrite is the right word. The papacy demonstrates the friction between idealism and realism. The papacy is trying to spread a spiritual message, but it still exists within the material world. In order for the papacy to gain the power it needed to minister to all of Christendom, it really needed to take on the trappings of a power center.

Quite frankly, the Bible sets impossible standards, especially if a religion is going to last long term. The message of the Bible was very much rooted in the idea that judgment would soon be upon us, so longer term goals weren’t so important. The papacy is in it for the long run, trying to save souls for as long as life remains on earth.

Nightwind: Mwa ha ha! | Nov 01, 2009

Oh, catholics aren’t as bad as protestants (americans).
Mr. Intellectual | Nov 01, 2009

The Pope doesn’t pay for anything, everything is donated to him. Not to mention that he doesnt wear designer shoes?

The ‘big mansion" is home to thousands of priests and it’s the capital of a coutnry- yes the vatican is its own country. It’s not the same as owning a big house when you have next to no bills to run the place. No electric company would dare send the pope a shut off notice, they would be scared
Lilmissykato DOF | Nov 01, 2009

The Pope’s are men. Men as different from one to another as anyone. Therefore some were hypocrites some were not.
Eye of Innocence | Nov 01, 2009

What big mansion castle thing and designer shoes? The pope lives in a 2 room apartment and his shoes were made by an Italian shoe maker, which is a long standing tradition of Italian shoe makers.

Sure, some are hypocrites. There were a few over 1000 years ago that could only be described as evil. But a hypocrite for the reasons you give? Certainly not.
Farsight | Nov 01, 2009

I am catholic. I want the Pope dressed nicer than the Queen of England. I want big cathedrals. I don’t want a homeless dude for pope. I don’t want to go to church in a converted theater.
Newell | Nov 01, 2009

Gain some knowledge, lose your ignorance.

The Pope takes vow to poverty. The Pope never owns anything on his back. He has no materialistic possession. The Vatican houses more people than just the Pope.
Intelligence is key* | Nov 01, 2009

The Pope does not own anything. Everything is provided to him is done by the Church through tithing and donations. In fact all Priest live moderate lifestyles because of their piousness and those that that take a vow of poverty have no luxuries. The Rectory that the Pope lives in houses many Priests inside. In fact the Roman Catholic Church restricted Priest to be married because of lordship issues that were brought up because when Priest were allowed to be married and when they died their inheritances (Church’s inheritance) would be passed on the the deceased Priest’s family (Wife, Sons and Daughters). Not to mention that their education also lead Priest to wealth and power.

Look at the Orthodoxy and Protestant churches. Their Pastors gain wealth through tithing and before they die it goes to their families. That’s right, what you give to your church is going into the hands of your Pastor’s family after they die.

Custom E-hero deck plz give me tips n need some revise!?
Im trying to make a good elemental hero deck that can handle all sort of decks so i also included strong killers such as cyber dragon, evil hero malicious edge, the wicked eraser and gorz the emissary of darkness.. plz give some pros and cons n ways i could improve my deck. THX
monsters: 23
x2 e-hero avian
x2 e-hero sparkman
x2 e-hero wildheart
x2 e-hero burstinatrix
x2 e-hero clayman
e-hero ocean
e-hero woodsman
e-hero neos alius
e-hero stratos
e-hero heat
e-hero captain gold
neo-spacian grand mole
the light – hex – sealed fusion
the wicked eraser
gorzthe emissary of darkness
cyber dargon
e-hero bladedge
evil hero malicious edge

spells:16
2x E emergency call
2x polymerization
2x skyscraper( i think i should only keep one..)
skyscraper 2 – hero city
future fusion
dark calling
miracle fusion
fifth hope
hero’s bond
R righteous justice
monster reborn
the warrior returning alive
lighting vortex

traps: 6
2x hero signal
2x sakuretsu armor
scrap-iron scarecrow
magic cylinder
fusions:16 need take one out guess one goes to sidedeck..or replacements.. but probabaly well when i edit my deck
E heros:
flame wingman
shining flare wingman
phoenix enforcer
shining phoexnix enforcer
plasma vice
wildedge
thunder gaint
rampart blaster
wild wingman
terra firma
grand neos
evil hero:
inferno wing
lighting golem
infernal sniper
dark gaia
n
Cyber twin dragon

 its a basic good build

keep the two skyscraper

take that wicked eraser out of there (random card in E-Hero deck)
it can disrupt your deck’s flow

there’s a new spell to consider
Faustian Bargain
Normal Spell: send from any side of the field (yours or your opponents) to the graveyard a special summoned monster and special summon a LV 4 or lower normal monster from your hand

this will take cards like Stardust out or any fusion your opponent may have

the fact that it SENDS the card is broke enough, letting you special summon a monster right after just puts a cherry on top of it all

XD

a suggestion about the Hex, take it out along with the Twin Cyber Dragon

if you dont know the ruling on each hex, it says it can be treated as any fusion material monster as long as the rest are the required materials…
the other effect is a whole different effect. you need to tribute the actual materials and then the Hex (hex is used instead of Polymerization)
that way, you cant special summon the shining flame wing man nor the cyber twin dragon

what you CAN sub the Twin dragon for is the Cyber fortress dragon
(it’s really good against morphtronics or any other machine deck)
