I have just managed to wangle myself some time off at work from 21st-27th Nov and am thinking of going to New York. Am thinking of going from the 20th- 25th, cos the prices even of hostels let alone hotels skyrocket for 26th. I am just worried that everything will be gearing up towards thanksgiving and there won’t really be anything going on before hand.
Actually, that is the NICEST time of year in New York City! The weather is starting to get cooler, so you’ll need a jacket and light sweaters and long sleeve t-shirts for layering, and the air is crisp and clean, and the leaves in Central Park are starting to turn colors… yep, Thanksgiving in New York City is the absolute BEST!!

go or don’t go. Do u have family up there?and can u get he time off for thanks giving to go?And If you do have family up there,it does not have to be a holiday just to drop in, and if you choose not to right now than save money back for it now and just add the extra latter,

There is always something going on in New York. If you can get to the city you will find something to entertain you. The weather will be perfect. Good luck.

As for lodging, go to Colonial House Inn. The cheapest rate is only $80, and it’s clean, nice, and they were friendly. It’s EXTREMELY good quality, especially for the price, and I would live there if I could- I give you my word, this hotel is amazing. Amazing Amazing Amazing.

Spending only 5 days here is like trying to do Europe in 5 days- you can’t. I would stay till Thanksgiving, then leave the next day (or that night), so you can see the parade.
Thanksgiving time should be fine, just make sure to book EVERYTHING now– rooms, attractions, etc. because the closer you get, the more money it is.
Trust me, in NYC, there’s ALWAYS something to do- a free concert at the park, a fair, etc. If there’s not anything that intrests you (which I doubt), then you can always go to the Empire State, Times Square, and other tourist attractions, or of course just walk around and soak in the culture.
If you have any questions about NY– what to do, what to see, what’s the cheapest place to bla blah bla, just email me, my mailbox is always open.
Good luck!

As someone else said, there’s always something going on in NYC. I would guess that just before Thanksgiving at least some of the stores would be in full Christmas decoration, maybe even the tree at Rock Center.
Just FWIW: The hotel that another person mentioned looks like it may be geared toward gay travelers, as it displays the "rainbow" flag and it is in Chelsea. You may or may not be comfortable with that. You can go to TripAdvisor.com for comments from past guests at hotels everywhere.

why wouldn’t anything else be going on in NYC just before Thanksgiving? even Thanksgiving is really just another day here in NYC, aside from the Parade, and there’s always something going on here 24/7/365…
