HamletHamlet (1996)

IMDB rating: 7.70

Plot: Hamlet, son of the king of Denmark, is summoned home for his father’s funeral and his mother’s wedding to his uncle. In a supernatural episode, he discovers that his uncle, whom he hates anyway, murdered his father. In an incredibly convoluted plot—the most complicated and most interesting in all literature—he manages to (impossible to put this in exact order) feign (or perhaps not to feign) madness, murder the “prime minister,” love and then unlove an innocent whom he drives to madness, plot and then unplot against the uncle, direct a play within a play, successfully conspire against the lives of two well-meaning friends, and finally take his revenge on the uncle, but only at the cost of almost every life on stage, including his own and his mother’s.

Based on the story of creation isn't heterosexuality the original sin and reproduction a punishment ?
Just bear with me :)

When God created Adam there was animals in the garden with him and he was alone which can only suggest that there was no need for reproduction anyway! Then when Eve entered the fray both she and Adam committed the original sin and it was from here on in that God told Eve her punishment was to bear children and be the "property" (for the want of a better term) of Adams! Now surely if heterosexual sex is "natural" then why was Eve given this as a form of punishments by God? So basically, if it hadn’t been for the actions of two heterosexuls none of us would be in this mess now?

Fireball is proof that religion is for the weak and pointless,..

no he commanded them to reproduce…Dont twist the Bible…
CHILDBEARING IS NOW PAINFUL due to the rebellion of not listening.
Fireball | Nov 16, 2009

If it hadn’t been for the actions of two heterosexuals (and of four before them …) most of us wouldn’t be here anyway.
za | Nov 16, 2009

Being a moron was the original sin. Eve was created for Adam as a companion, therefore heterosexuality is NOT a sin.
Bonzai Betty | Nov 16, 2009

Cool, I have never thought of it that way.

If you expect rational answers from the faithful, forget it.
ChivaChiva | Nov 16, 2009

Bear with me…could you repeat the question?
Your analogy just sucks. No offense.
Secret Agent of God (BWR) | Nov 16, 2009

Just read Genesis 3. If you are going to critique the Bible get your facts together.
imrod | Nov 16, 2009

May I suggest you read again the first three chapters of Genesis? I think you will find that Adam and Eve got thrown out of Eden for becoming "as gods" having the knowledge of good and evil. That was their sin. It had nothing to do with serpents, sex, or having apple on their breaths.
oldandtired | Nov 16, 2009

Pain was all the result of sin coming into the earth. God did not say women are the property of man. Jesus bore our pain. I call out to Jesus when in pain and he helped me.
blackberry | Nov 16, 2009

Painful Child birth is one of the implications of Sin, not reproduction…

Reproduction was originally God’s design.
chrispy | Nov 21, 1977

If you take the beginning literally we should all be running around nude and living to the ripe old age of a thousand. You are trying to interpret a story enjoyed by Christians that is constantly used by non believers as a wedge to shoulder an argument. Which means; it’s also a story to non believers.

The simple facts remains, we all have faith, it just depends on what you have faith in:)
ggraves1724 | Nov 16, 2009

Far fetched..
Kit | Nov 16, 2009

The original sin was the disobedience in eating from the tree of knowledge of good and evil. Pain in childbearing was the punishment for Eve and Adams punishment was to have to work the land for survival. While in the Garden everything was provided by God.

Eve was created from a rib taken from Adam’s side as a symbolism that woman was created to walk beside her husband, not be behind Him, rule over him or be beneath his feet. I am not my husbands property, I am his partner in a marriage. We share equally in earning income, chores, making financial decisions and most important of all, child rearing.
Bible Believer | Nov 16, 2009

Hi,
No that wasn’t the original sin. Some believe (not all) that it was Eve having sex with Satan that started the problems. Some feel cain was the off spring of Satan and eve, and this is why Cain had issues with Able, and then murdered him out of jealousy. Complicated to say the least. This isn’t what most Christian sects believe, but it is accepted by some sects. This belief is known as the serpent seed doctrine. Hence the division between her seed and satan seed…hers crushes the head of the serpent (Satan) and his (Satan) bruises the heel of hers (Jesus)
Besides God told man to become fruitful and multiply, so that alone blows your theory out of the garden….so to speak.
skiingstowe | Nov 16, 2009

No.
Joe P | Nov 16, 2009

Yep.
Hence the frequent christian belief that all sex is "sinful and evil," and that if it wasn’t necessary for reproduction they would (claim) to eschew it completely.
A belief that results in some really screwed-up people and attitudes about sex.

Peace.

English tenses problems?
Hi, I’m a Pole trying to explore the intricacies English. And here are my problems. I’ve done these tests and I even got the key, but there is no freaking way I can understand some answers. Wondering now if it’s really so difficult or I’m just so stupid

Ok, let’s go:

Problem 1:
http://img687.imageshack.us/img687/4138/ testnx.jpg

I’ve got doubts concerning number 7 (love). According to the key there are 2 possible answers "love/loved". My question is: why is Present Perfect impossible here? To my Polish ear, it just sounds perfect

Problem 2:
http://img80.imageshack.us/img80/9406/fo cusj.jpg

Number 20. Can we put "was shutting" here? Or maybe the action of "shutting the doors" is too short for Past Continuous? And what about 21? Definitely Simple Past or is there a slight possibility of Past Continuous? (i.e. were just collapsing=falling on a seat)

Problem 3:
At the dentist’s

I was on time for my dentist’s appointment, but the dentist was still busy with another patient, so I (1)…………..(sit) in the waiting room and (2)……………. (read) some of the old magazines lying there. While I (3)…………….(wonder) whether to leave and come back another day, I (4)…………………(notice) a magazine article about teeth. It (5)………… (begin): ‘How long is it since you last (6)………… (go) to the dentist? (7)……………….. (you go) regularly every six months? Or you (8)……………..(put off) your visit for the last six months?’ Next to the article was a cartoon of a man in a dentist’s chair. The dentist (9)…………..(say): ‘I’m afraid this (10) ……………. (hurt).’ I (11) ………………….. (suddenly realize) that my tooth (12) ……….. (stop) aching. But just as I (13) ………….. (open) the door to leave, the dentist’s door (14)………….. (open). ‘next please,’ he (15) ………………. (call), as the previous patienty (16) …………. (push) past me. ‘Actually I not here to see you, I (17) …………. (wait) for my friend,’ I (18) ………. (shout), leaving as rapidly as I could. (19) ……………. (you ever do) this kind of thing? Surely I can’t be the only person who (20)……… (hate) the dentist!

What about number (12). Stopped ot had stopped? According to my key, "had stopped" is the only option here. But for me it’s quite ambiguous.

Problem 4
http://users.fulladsl.be/spb9193/mix2.ht m
5th answer. Is it possible to put Past Simple here? Meaning, when he saw the leak, he called the plumber. It sounds quite logical to me that, first, he noticed the leak and then, as a consequence, he phoned the plumber. Am I right?

Problem 5
I’d like to practice more, do you know any other tests for advanced learners? I’m especially interested in those with all kinds of tenses mixed up but in a single text, article, story or whatever as long as it’s one, separate text. I’ve searched the Net and found some but it’s not enough. Could you recommend something?

Excuse my longish question, appreciate any help.
